Turnitin is currently the most used plagiarism detection software for higher education and allows faculty an additional tool to foster academic integrity. Turnitin allows faculty to have electronically submitted student work compared with a database of previously submitted student papers, millions of pages from journals, books and newspapers, and billions of pages from the Internet.

As with the standard TurnItIn Similarity Report, the AI detection percentage should not be considered as the sole evidence to indicate the student has used a generative AI writing tool (such as ChatGPT). Within the Similarity Report produced, faculty will be presented with a new AI indicator side panel which shows the overall percentage of likelihood that AI writing tools were used.
